Guidelines for Site Engagement

Guidelines for Commenting and Engaging with the Site

As part of a Student Recovery Community, Academics Anonymous deals with sensitive topics. In creating this blog, we —the students— wished to establish a space for us to tell our stories and to engage a larger community in mutual respect and understanding. We wish to interact with you in this state of vulnerability, but it is also essential that we maintain a safe space. To foster such a space, we ask that you adhere to the following set of community guidelines while interacting with our content.

      1. We agree that there is absolutely no room for discrimination or harassment of any kind. That means racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, ableist, classist, and/or any other speech that does not respect each individual’s tradition, heritages, and/or experiences will not be tolerated. Instead, we acknowledge and honour the fundamental value and dignity of all individuals.
      2. This blog is not affiliated with any specific group and supports each individual in their recovery goals. While in this space, we honour each other’s unique journeys, no matter what they look like.
      3. We agree to honour confidentiality and will refrain from obtaining and/or disclosing identifying information.
      4. We agree to not give each other advice, including but not limited to medical advice and/or religious/spiritual advice. While it is perfectly acceptable to speak on your own experiences, please avoid telling people what to do. This can be a simple restructuring of a statement. For example, instead of saying “You should talk to your family doctor,” you may say, “My family doctor helped me a lot in my recovery”.
      5. We agree to not glorify any substance use and/or addictive behaviours, and will not diminish other people’s experiences.
      6. We agree not to use this blog for promotional purposes, including but not limited to promotion of products, ideas, or other sites.

By interacting with our content, you understand that failure to comply with these guidelines may result in comment deletion.
